thunking after coasting...PLEASE READ

If I accelerate form a stop quickly the car shudders, and if i'm coast at say 45-55MPH and I tap the gas I hear a thunking. What could this be from? Bad U-joints or torque convertor? I don't wanna get ripped of at a shop. BTW the trans was redone 2 years ago buy the previous owner and shifts pretty hard to 2-3. Any input is greatly appreciated....thanx!

hey i might actually be able to help someone ! =o)

Well the same thing was wrong with my friends car , and his u-joints were so bad that there was to much play on the drive shaft, .. go under your car and see how much play is on your driveshaft.. if there is play ( move it right to left , then its the ujoints.. and i would replace them as soon as possible ..

if not then i dont know what it could be

There is minimal play there. About an 1/8th of an inch each way. Is there a minimum spec were it should be, or a max? What about the shuddering? I forgot to mention it Shudders when coasting if I get on it hard too. Any other Idea's?

Also check the torque arm bushing. If it's toast, it could be bouncing around, that could be why it makes noise on acceleration.

Keep us posted.

Nope not the trans mount or the torque arm bushing replaced those last summer with Prothane peices. I suppose it could be a U-joint cause the trans mount does throw off the angles a bit down there. Any other ideas? The car also stalls when hot when I'm stopped and attemp to take off. And another problem is that If I hold slight brake pressure you can feel the car kinda stutter forward. Any more idea's?

Have you checked to see if the torque converter is stuck in lock-up?
