Can I unscrew the reverse lockout solenoid ?

[Recently purchased this car...]
I found out why my reverse lockout is not working correctly. Based on my research here, I apparently don't even have the reverse lockout solenoid installed - IN ITS PLACE is a blue anodized "plug" that seems to screw in there perfectly - I have not attempted to unscrew it.

If I do, will tranny fluid come out of it, or is it only an electrical connection ?

Basically, energized or not engergized, it is not installed - the end of this "blue anodized plug" is completely smooth, no provisions for any sort of wires. Anyone ever heard of this ?

My single goal is - make it hard to go into reverse... while driving, it is almost to easy to go from 4th, the shifter simply slides over and it is too easy to hit reverse. In neutral, the shifter can almost fall over to reverse with minor minor effort....

The previous owner (who installed the T-56) had this rebuilt - could the rebuild shop have "eliminated" the reverse lockout and skimped out on the reverse lockout springs and all and not reassemble it correctly ?

my t56 still has the reverse lockout there, but not connected of course. it seems to be "stuck" in the closed postition sorta, so that i have to strongarm it into reverse. it goes, but there is no way i would ever misshift it from 4th to reverse, its too hard. so if you unscrew that plug ( should be no fluid there, havent taken mine out, but id be shocked if there was fluid ) and get a solenoid, it should work for what ya want.

i hope this made some sense to you. if not, im sorry.

I just want to make sure that buy the solenoid not being there, its not going to be a hazard of any sort, whether it be fluid seeping out or any foreign objects coming inside the trans. That probably wouldn't havppen though since the trans is in the tunnel right? Or could water still get in there? Thanks!

water could still get there, water has a funny way of getting everywhere you dont want it! lol. you could always duct tape over the hole temporarily to ensure nothin gets in.
