Installing diff gasket. Quick question.

After changing my bent axle I'm now left with fitting the diff gasket. It's a paper gasket so I presume I just use some RTV silicone on each side to seal it? How much?

How long should I leave it before adding the diff fluid?

Any other suggestions are welcome.

Thanks

Robert

I never use the gasket, just some rtv sealant. Waiting until the silicone on the outside firms up is probably a good idea.

I would use some High tack gasket sealant and the
paper gasket. But that's just me.

If you must use rtv, use the Ultra Grey, we use it at
Kenworth to seal up rear ends instead of gaskets.

i second the high tack, great for holding it in place, on the machined suace you shouldn't need any sealer, i use ultracopper on the pan side.

Thanks for the replies. Finally got a dry day so was out today and finished the job. I used a paper gasked and a thin layer of gasket sealent. Hopefully this will do the job. I'm leaving it overnight and filling the diff with fluid tomorrow.
