Trans shifting into drive probs

Non thirdgen
89 beretta, 1,2,drive with torque lock

When the car's cold ~25-35degrees the car shifts fine into reverse but when I got to put it in drive it feels like it starts to go into gear but then when I hit the gas the engine just revs. I then have to put it back into neutral for a few seconds then back into drive and it'll work.

Any ideas on what the problem could be? The fluid level is fine and I changed the filter about 18K miles ago.

The tranny was rebuilt and now has 60K on the rebuild.

Lol actually, this sounds similar to what happened to mine...When the car was cold it was fine, I could even get to school 1 or 2 miles down the road w/o a problem! Any more than that and it'd start making a weird grinding noise that almost sounded like a really power fan blower. Then one day I went to Wendys for lunch....traffic was bad, so after sitting for about 6-7 mins I think my foods getting cold, I'ma just punch it....so I do....and don't move more than about 3 inches....I manage to slowly ease it into moving but it won't shift. I went about 5 miles home at 4500 rpm going about 20 MPH....I was quite embarassed. I believe my torque converter is shot.....and if it's shot, no doubt some fins broke off into the trans fluid and shreaded the internals of the trans....so it's dead....I got one last run outta it and now it refuses to move, or even to go into park....its in 1st gear, barely...if I rev the motor to 5K rpm I can get it to move at about .1 MPH lol. It sounds similar but not identical, could be the same, might be totally different, I'd suspect the trans either way though.

I suspect either the spool or the valve body needs to be cleaned. Either that or the pump is on it's way out.

Would a trans flush from a shop actually clean anything in the trans or would it be a waste of 90 bucks? What about sea foam's trans cleaner? Waste or good investment?

Update

Tried Seafoam. It's been 2 weeks now and the problem has yet to return.
So it looks like my VB just needed to be cleaned. Thanks for the help.
