I need another trans ASAP and i dont have the money for a good aftermarket 700R4 or a t56 so it looks like ill be off to the boneyard for another. Whats a good car to get one from? I was going to get a 4l60 from a camaro but seeing some of the abuse these cars go through, im having second thoughts. Would one from a non-commercial caprice with an lo3 be a good way to go? i dotn mind using a used trans but id like to avoid getting one thats had the living ****ing **** kicked out of it.

 

All of your V8 700R-4/4L60 Trannies are the same internally. The only difference is the valvebody/spacer plate and the governer. What vehicle you get it out of will effect how it shifts and when it shifts. Another thing you will have to look out for is speedometer gear and tailshaft housing. Some will have a metal reluctor wheel w/ a magnetic VSS pickup, but you can tap it off the output shaft and use the plastic one thats on yours (the holes for the clip are still there). your tailshaft housing will also swap over to the new tranny, just reminding you that it needs to be done. Just stay away from 4X4 and Vette 700's.
