carrier ?

I am installing a new motor in my car with a cam, and gears would certainly help get it into it's power band much better. I currently have a 83Z with 2.73s and an open differential. Can i put gears and posi into this carrier? Is it different from carriers that originally came with posi? What series carrier is it? I was also curious as to whether or not it was possible to put 28 spline axles into my carrier that has 26 splines. I did a search and heard that it was a straightforward swap, and i also read that 28 splines were too big to fit. Whats the correct answer? Thank you very much.

A posi is the carrier. So when you buy your posi, make sure its a 3 series 28 spline, and then you can use 3.23 and up gear ratios and 28 spline axles. Yes, as long as you buy a 7.5-7.65" carrier and axles to match, it will be a direct swap.
