T-5 Transmission Specs.
I just need to know specifics on what to look for. Mine exploded and there is no gears to grab. Everything is still in the case though. Worse case is probably a cracked case with a broke cluster gear. The engine still runs though with a lot noise in the bellhousing area.
Well anyway it is an 83 T/A with 5-speed and mechanical z-bar operated clutch. The motor is stock with no cat.
1. What spline does that particular trans use for the clutch?
2. How can you tell a V-8 trans from a V-6 or 4 cylinder version or are they the same in some years or different?
3. What bolts or screws hold the console in and how do I remove the rubber boot that is around the shifter handle?
4. Are gear ratios the same in these transmissions as others?
5. What year trans is a direct bolt in as far as using the mechanical speedometer?
6. Are they any differences on the newer transmissions? Newer than 83.

Axle/Gears: moser 12 bolt, 4.11's 33 spline axl
they are all 26 spline input shafts,
the rubber boot has bolts around its perimeter that hold it onto the trans tunnel.
I believe anything before 90 had a mechanical speedo.

re:5-speed
Glad to know that about the speedometer and the 26 spline input shaft. Now I just need to locate one. I got up underneath the car and it don't look that hard to yank the tranny out. That car has the smallest crossmember I have ever seen.
I still need to know the difference in the four cylinder, six cylinder and the V-8 5-speeds. Is one stronger than the other or is it just a gear ration thing?

i think 4 and 6cyls are the same
they have smaller input shafts and differnt first gear ratios.
The TPI 5speed was a 2.75 first and a 1.75 second I think with a .68 od. The tbis were 2.95 first and 1.95 second with a .63 od.
A 6cyl one will work if you you the 6cyl clutch disk,, but I think it would not last long.
