VSS telling my torque converter the wrong speed?

Hey guys,
I was going on a highway drive the other night, and I got on the local highway, the torque converter locked at the speed it was supposed to, but then it unlocked for the rest of the journey. I did not push speeds higher than 55 so that I did not burn gas or damage my transmission. Whenever I take off the torque converter locks, but then it unlocks for the rest of the highway journey until I slow down. I think its my VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor), but the problem with this hypothesis is, my speedometer still functions properly. Is there a different circuit on the VSS or something that controls only the torque converter. I read in the Haynes manual, which some of you tell others not to trust, that the VSS controls the torque converter lockup. Is it the VSS, or is it my tranny saying "bye bye" after being serviced? (It was serviced normally throughout its life so don't think that the fluid was already bad making further complications). Let me know what you think, any help is appreciated.
