'85 trany cross ref.?

I have a 1985 camro v8 (lg4) and my tranny just went out on it... I was woundering what tranys can I bolt up to this engine? And what traany would be the best for fast smooth shifting? I plan to do a few minor mods to the engine later and I don't wanna have to replace the tranny again... I'll probably add another 100 hp or so over stock... Nothin big. Thanks for the help!

You're talking about an automatic? Only 700R4s from thirdgen Camaros or Firebirds will fit without changing anything because of the torque arm mount on the tailshaft housing. If you get one out of something else (except a Corvette), you'll have to change the tailshaft housing.

A Corvette tranny will need even more changes. Not only is the tailshaft housing not compatible, but the output shaft is shorter.

I have seen other 700r4 cars/trucks with the proper tail-shaft for a third-gen. Mine was from a chevy astro van. Alot of cars/trucks have had to replace their 700r4, so some may have sent in their 'normal' core and recieved a third-gen type tailshaft housing on the rebuilt unit. Your just going to have to look around.
