Anybody w/a 4th gen rear end please look.

I read the tech article on putting one in. I just wanted to know if its really that easy? and also are they stronger than the rear ends that came in our cars? also how much did everybody pay for there rear end? also what years were the best in the 4th gens? did anything change? thanks

Josh

The 4th gen rearend is not any better then the ones in our 3rd gens. The only difference in the two is the length. the 4th gen rear is 4 inches longer overall. The reason for swapping one in a 3rd gen is to get a wider tire in there. I had a drum rear in my car with a lot of miles on it and wanted SS wheels and didnt want spacers in the rear so I decided to put a 4th gen disc rear in. The rears in all 4th gens are the same except for the brakes being drum or disc. The V8 cars had a better posi unit I believe.
Installing one is pretty straight foward. You just need the basic variety of hand tools and some jackstands. The only thing that will not be a direct swap is the brake cable(s). I had to use an E brake cable for a 91camaro FIRST DESIGN. Just call your GM dealer and tell him that, it will come up in the computer as first design. I paid about $60 for the cables. You will need 2. As far as how much a rear cost, expect to get price quotes ranging from 200-500 dollars. I already had a rear from my 97t/a. I just put new gears back in it. try ebay. Hope this helps/

Bottledzr28 is very right

Yea, it's really that easy, and yes you will need new cables. I paid $250 for my 98 SS rear that I put in the 91 RS. It had 3.23 posi, and took about a weekend to do. Only because I didn't buy everything first. It's a must have in every Camaro, and gives you a very sexy bulldog look. If you want to see some pics of my weekend of fun go to www.vorliant.com/Mike Hope this helps.
