Bellhousing

I have built an engine for my TBI t5 bird. I'm using a 350 4bolt out of a 79 truck. I put a cam in it and all. I was told by an expert that the bellhousing from a 93 firebird with an LT1 had a T5. It used the same size flywheel as the old engine. (11 " disk compared to my 10 ". I would like the Part # for it I went to GM but their computer is wrong, giving the part number for a six bellhousing. Thank you.

I hate to say it, but it sounds like the expert was wrong. In '93 GM started the fourth gen birds and camaros and teamed the LT-1 up with the T-56 6 speed. I currently have a 6 speed from a '93 in my '84 TA. No fourth gen's with v-8's used a t-5 sorry to inform ya. In any case, finding a bellhousing that will fit around the 11" flywheel and allow you to bolt up a t-5 may be tough, check into the Lakewood unit though, I'm not sure if an 11" will fit inside that or not, but it's possible! The T-56 uses a flywheel that's the same diameter as the T-5 unit, but has a friction surface to accept an 11 inch clutch, maybe you could check into something like that. With a 2 piece rear main you'd have to either re-drill the LT-1 flywheel for the 2 piece bolt pattern or get an aftermarket unit that's already drilled for a 2 piece rear main crank. My flywheel is a re-drilled LT-1 unit and it's working out great! I hope I answered some of your questions, if ya have any more don't hesitate to ask!

It is available. It's listed in several books and on GM computers. 93 firebird LT1 5 speed. But it lists the number for the 6 cylinder. And it my transmissions experts books it's there. there weren't many made, that's the thing.

I never said that the T-5 wasn't used in a fourth gen. Just not with a V-8 (which is why the GM computer lists the bellhousing for a 6 cylinder), and it seems VERY odd that the GM computer lists an LT-1 five speed bellhousing. And to the best of my knowledge you can't bolt a v-6 bellhousing up to a v-8 unless it's a 4.3 bellhousing (I think, since the 4.3 is a 350 minus 2 cylinders, but don't quote me on that, I'm not real up on the 6 cylinders). The fourth gen's use the 3.8 v-6 and to the best of my knowledge that bellhousing will NOT bolt up to a v-8, but it is entirely possible that I am wrong. In any case I highly doubt that an 11" flywheel will fit inside a 6 cylinder bellhousing even if it bolted up. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're trying to do though. Please correct me if I am Let me know what's up, ok!
