Flywheel issues on turning for new clutch

Hello all took the plung and put a worldclass t5 in my 91 got tired of the 700r4 problems. Well heres the deal I took my fly wheel to the machine shop to have it surfaced and they turned it down .044 of an inch thats fourty four thousands of an inch. from my best knowledge it was never turned before. they said it would be all right if i put a .050 shim in behind it. well I was fine with this till they said oh theres no charge on the flywheel surfacing. well it got me wondering, now im wanting to know the minumin machine spec on that fly wheel if anyone knows. please help out a fellow thirdgen lover from a costly mistake. thx audi0g0d
