Driveshaft length with 9" or 12 bolt?

Since the search is temp. disabled, I have to ask. Anyone know if a stock length driveshaft will work with a Ford 9" or a 12 bolt rear?

Car is an 89 IROC, 700R4 tranny. I might have a great deal lined up on a heavy duty shaft of stock length, just need to know if it will work once I get a new rearend.

It might but probably won't. Depends on the yoke that's on the diff.

To determine the proper length of the drive shaft, the length is measure from u-joints center to center. Slide the front yoke into the transmission until it stops then pull it out 1". Measure center of yoke y-joint to center of diff yoke u-joint. That's the length of the drive shaft.

I was able to use the stock length driveshaft when I did my 9" swap, but it's still a good idea to check it as Stephen describes. The only thing I changed was the rear u-joint to work in the Ford pinion.
