I'm swapping in a 74 carbed 350 from a vette. My car has the 700R4 right now. The tranny has over 100k miles on it, and it shows. I was thinking of a few different possibilities. I would prefer to swap in a manual tranny over an automatic. However, a T56 doesn't fit my budget now. I've heard the T5 isn't strong enough to hold up to a 350. Is that true? Would I be better off finding an older 4 speed? If I did chose to stick with the auto, would I be better off rebuilding mine, or finding another one in better shape? How much does it cost to rebuild an auto tranny and how hard is it to do?
