Clutch question
Clutch question
Im bolting a 350 to a T5, yeah, I've heard the stories about this setup.... Anyway, i looked at the clutch disc, the guys at AUtoZOne said that it looks half worn. I am pretty picky about spending money, since i have to ask my wife when I want to spend over $50.
Can I just replace the disc with a Jegs Centerforce disc ($85)? And is this Centerforce disc just as good a stock disc ($36) from AUtoZone? WIll this centerforce disc last just as long if I keep the stock pressure plate? If I want to help my clutch do I need to replace the stock pressure plate also? Im just trying do the bare minimum work to keep me from pulling the clutch out after a year. I'm running this car as street/strip, maybe a "summer daily driver".

your letting guys at a parts store give you mechanical advice?
think about why they are working at a parts store and not a garage.................
depends on how worn your pressure plate is
i wouldnt..................
your PP and flywheel are prolly glazed, if not worse.........

did you check the run-out on them? they maybe warped
what do you mean by "glossy"
the way you describe them they sound glazed
they will probabaly work, but not for much longer
they mite slip
minimum work to make clutch last atleast a year: new PP and have the flywheel cut
a new PP is about $100 and last time i had a flywheel cut was about $35
go with centerforce, i used a NAPA clutch once and it lasted all of a month
my centerforce has last over a year so far
also a new TO bearing.............

I talked to a man who has been in the clutch and drive shaft business for 29 yrs. If it says anything but "made in the U.S." forget it.

Also, as long as you dont power shift, and do stupid things, your t-5 should last at least a year if not way more behind a 350.
Im running a WC T5 behind a 383 pushing over 450 TQ at peak, and have been for at least a year. Havent had any problems with tranny yet, and I took it to the strip at least 5 weekends last year, so about 50-70 runs. Im also running a centerforce dual friction clutch.
