what rear gear installation kit do I need?
The car is going from the 3.08 open to the SLP take out posi and GM 3.42 gears. The car only has 34,000 origonal miles on it so things are still in pretty good shape. What installation/rebuild kit do I need. They sell varying ones from $50 to $130. Since I have so few miles can I get away with just the simple kit or rebuild everything in there with an expensive kit? What parts are good to stay and what parts need to be replaced regaurdless of mileage?

Hmmmm.... only 34,000 miles... That would be the Ratech 308TK.
About $100. You have to change the bearings when you do that, doesn't matter if they have zero miles on them; your new gears come without any, and you'll destroy the old ones trying to get them out. It's always wise to change out the axle bearings and seals at the same time, since they're so cheap and easy to do right then, and they have a nasty habit of leaking after being disturbed. That would be the Ratech 3001K, which is about $125.
Here's a source that's considerably less expensive than SLP for everything except the posi; exact same parts by mfr & part #

The only parts you'll leave in there will be the axles, the carrier caps, and the bolts for the caps. Every single other part will be replaced.

thx RB83L69,
That is some good info. I will probably just pay the extra and get the most complete kit. I don't like cutting corners and it is only like an extra $50.
