Hooking up a torque converter lockup on a non computer car. Ed/gmtech/marc85
Got my car back from aamco yesterday. Went out to the car, and when I got ready to take off I noticed the battery amp, fuel gauge, and tach were not working. I let them know before I left because I figured it was just a fuse. Got home and replaced the fuse. Turned on the switch and heard the fuse pop. Tried it again, and guess what, POP. Went out this morning to drive to work at 4 am, so I had to turn the lights on. When I turned the lights on, it started buzzing like when you have the lights on and the key out of the ignition. I hit the brake, and the buzzing stops. Let the brake up, and it starts again. I took the car back to the shop to make them fix it. Before, my wiring harness was not hooked up to the transmission, because my engine is non cc controlled. They said they unhooked the harness from the transmission, and it stopped blowing the fuse. Everything back to normal. THe reason they hooked up the harness is so I will have lock up on my converter. They are looking right now to see if it is a short in the ground or somethin. My question to you guys is, can you plug the harness in on the transmission, and have a non cc engine. Or, is this not possible, I just need to get the aftermarket kit from jegs. SOrry for the lenth of this, just trying to get some answers. Thanks in advance Jason

i highly suggest that you purchase a lock-up harness from painless wiring
without using the lockup feature, your adding alot of wear and tear to your converter
the lock-up harness allows use of a non-cc engine

i bought the B&M one is was $100 as well. I am very happy with it and plan on using it this spring/summer. The directions were easy to follow and you can adjust what speed it will lockup at. Summit and Jegs both sell them, you must tell them to get you the cable driven speedo one or the electric speedo one.
