I know this sounds stupid but,,,,,,,

I am trying to put a track only car together on a BUDGET and have a question about the rear end, I have a 9 bolt posi unit that has 2.77 gears on it and a 9 bolt open rear that has 3.23 gears on it, since its only a track car can I open up the rear end (the one with the 3.23's) and weld the differential parts together, I mean the spider gears and carrier and all the moving parts except where the axles slide into. I don't want to spend the money for a new or rebuilt 3 series posi unit and I can't find a full spool for a 9 bolt.

as I said, I know this sounds like a dumb idea but I have alot of other things to buy and not a very big wallet.
