Im getting this weird noise from under the car at speeds under 30mph and Im hoping its not the clutch. It will not do it if I am accelerating. It will start when I stop accelerating and start cruising in gear. it will go away once and awhile. it will stop if I push the clutch in. It wil do it if I slowly rev the engine while in N with the clutch pedal out. it kind of sounds like the shield on the bellhousing is loose and rattleing on the bellhousing. Im hoping it is that and its only rattling when I rev the engine. When does and doesnt a clutch chatter.

 

Clutch chatter occurs when letting the clutch out at a stop, like taking off from a stop light or something. Doesn't sound like that's what you have.

If it sounds like the shield rattling on the bell housing, start by checking the shield on the bell housing. The cat has metal parts that also can rattle, try banging on that and see if you hear it.

 

Well, today I started taking the shield off to see what was going on in the bellhousing and realized the starter had to come off to get the shield off. So, I just re tighten all the bolts and the car didnt make the noise again. Hopefully that was it. Ill drive it around and see what happens.

 

Well, the sound is back and its getting louder. Tomorrow I am pulling the trans to see whats up. Man I hate doing that on my back. I gonna try pulling the trans and clutch and replace the leaking rear main seal in one day while I have sun light. Wish me luck. I ll be doing it by myself
