3-4 clutches are gone. The only way to fix that is to take the transmission out and tear it down.

So would that be the only thing wrong with it, just the 3rd and 4th clutches?

Thats probably all that is wrong with it, but I certainly would not pull it out and tear it down just to replace a clutch pack.

there are more things that could cause it to not shift into 3rd or 4th , but most likly a rebuild would solve your problem .

Interesting point. Is it NOT SHIFTING out of second, or is it going into a "NUETRAL" state after 2nd gear???

Well; you got me on that one. Before it went out, it was "slipping" in those 2 gears. As in the engine would rev higher for a second before engaging into the gear. After it finally got into O.D. it was fine. Then on the way home one day it just did not engage into 3rd the engine would just rev up higher if I pressed the gas peddel. I even tried to manually use the shifter to put it into third with no luck. But if I put it in to 2nd or 1st it was fine just in those 2 gears (1st & 2nd). So if your asking me if is NOT SHIFTING INTO 3rd or going into a "NEUTRAL" state. You got me because I couldn't even tell you the diffrence. All I know is that the engine revs higher after 2nd like I just put the car in neutral. Hope that helps, So I can get help. I want to thank all now in case I forget to later.

OK, so if its revving higher after second gear, then it IS shifting, just slipping badly, giving it that "nuetral" feeling.
So the 3-4 clutches are toast. LIke I said, have to pull it down and apart to fix this one
