4th gen rears

i need a rearend to hold up to about 430-440 hp(all motor if that matters). i currently have a stock 10 bolt with the HO package gears that are 3.23 or something close to that. w/o a budget that says 9" or moser 12 bolt, and no resorces to build my own, i was wondering if a 4th gen rear out of an LS1 car that would hold up and if it would be a direct swap into my 83 thirdgen, and cheaper than a custom built rear? I know the newer 4thgens had only about 310-20 hp a good hundred less than my car, but some of those guys have a 150-170 shot of NOS and have no problem with the rear holding up. if anyone can help and give me some advice i would appriciate it much!!

Its a "direct bolt in" but its not a perfect match. The rearend is wider and will cause your thirdgen rims to stick out.

What makes you think that a "4th gen rear" can handle more HP then your thirdgen rear? They are BOTH 7.5", 29 spline axle 10-bolts. If it wasn't for the axle length, everything would be interchangable.

Edit: I just noticed that you don't have the '92 anymore which is what I though we were talking about. OK the 4th gen rear does have the 28 axle spline advantage over your 26 spline setup, but thats usually not what breaks. Usually its carrier or bearing issues, sometimes a ring and pinion. Haven't seen any axle breakages.

Nope, ring gear and carrier are the same size. Thats why everybody is buying up those Torsen carriers from SLP.
