Stock posi not working - next step?

Guys:

My stock posi unit appears to have expired! I used to be able to leave two lovely long black tire marks and now I'm experiencing the old "one wheel peel" and am finding it so hard to get off the line quickly.

What should I do now? Should I rebuild the existing unit or get an aftermarket replacement?

If I'm getting an aftermarket one what do you think of the Eaton unit?

Is there anything else I should replace or check when doing all this?

Thanks for your help guys!

Gordon

Also find out if you have a 9-bolt or a 10-bolt Rear Axle Assy. Required Info before spending money or searching for parts.

The car is a 1989 TA GTA with 3.23 gears.

Will I have a 9 or 10 bolt rear? How do you find out?

Thanks again.

Check your RPO codes for the Rear Axle stating with the letter ( G)
And G-80 for the Limited Slip. You also can count the Bolts on the rear axle cover 9=9-bolt & 10=10-bolt. Alsio how do you know you have a 3:23 ratio??? Also what engine & transmission do you have???

I'm at work right now but I'll check the RPO codes when I get home.

I didn't realise checking it was as easy as looking at the rear axle cover!

It's a 350 TPI and TH-700-R4.

Possible codes for your info....1989 TA 350TPI & 700R4 could be:
GH3= BW 9-bolt 2:77 standard
GW6=BW 9-bolt 3:27 optional
G80 =Limited Slip (Posi)

Least possible:
6HQ/6HJ=10-bolt 3:23

Best guess would be a 9-bolt rear which would leave you with the least options for replacement parts. You could do a search on 9-bolt parts if that is the case.

Well you do have the 9-bolt rear and now the bad news. The parts are very EXPENSIVE for this rear. Try the web site in the previous post and be sitting down when you check the prices.
