Carrier ID needed

Ok, I bought a 2.73 posi/disc 7.5" 10-bolt setup for my Camaro. I am not 100% sure what series carrier it has in it. (Before anyone calls me a idiot and says "its a 2-series dumbass" the gears are not stock.)

Hell, I dont know what type of posi it has. It chirps around corners some, and has almost no slip, I am thinking it might be a locker, so, I am going to pull the cover tommorow and look. Is there any way I can see what series carrier it has?

The reason I want to know, is I want my old 3.42 gears back on there, I need to know if I should buy some gears, or re-use my old ones.

it's a 2-seriesunless you find a spacer in it when you take it apart, there are spacers to put 3-series carriers in 2series rears...i doubt you have one tho, and the new gears mean nothing, you have to buy them specific to the carrier type they're going into...hth

Ehh, what the hell, I'll give it a shot. Whats the worse that can happen? I blow the rear to hell and gone?

My friend is giving me a Moser 12-bolt if I manage to blow this rearend up.

I know, I know "Why dont you just put the moser in now?"

Hell if I know. I think he wants to see me blow the rearend he couldn't kill. *Shrug*

Well you can't put 2-series gears on a 3-series carrier; since there's no spacer made that takes space or metal away. So if it has 2.73 gears in it, it's a 2-series carrier. Believe that.

Beyond that, take the cover off and look. We could all speculate endlessly about what sort of posi / spool / locker it does or doesn't have, but htat won't have the slightest exxect on what's actually in the housing.

Your 3.42s will not go on that carrier, unless you use a spacer.
