need help choosing the correct flywheel
Hey. I just lost a stock replacment flywheel due to a starter that was too weak in the first place, and shaved down some of my flywheel. My new starter was fine, but it grinds now. I took my flywheel off, and it's no good anymore. I need something that can stand up to a high hp and torque engine, is reliable, stand up to a high torque starter, and is decent on my wallet. I want a 168 tooth flywheel. Alluminum is nice, but not cheap. Any help/tips/advice would be helpful. Thanks gang.

You appear to have an auto trans, so you don't have a flywheel. You have a flex plate.
They're not available in aluminum. They're made out of sheet steel.
Your starter may or may not work with a 168-tooth one. If your current one is 153-tooth, you should just leave it that way; since the one is 14" in diameter, and the other is only 12¾" diameter, putting the larger one on would require that it move out away from the crank by 5/8", which might cause all kinds of exhaust interference.
Of course, if it's the larger one now, then you should just stick with that.
Look through Summit & Jeg's, and visit your local speed shop; there's lots of choices of them out there. Just don't ask for a flywheel because you'll get the wrong thing. Ask for a flex plate.
