700R4 not moving when cold
700R4 not moving when cold
Hi, I recently replaced the filter in my auto trans. and filled it with some Dexron III. Everything was fine for a couple weeks, but now it seems to act up when it's cold. I never had any problem before. I put it into reverse to back out of my garage and it hardly moves. Then it's the same in first when I pull forward. The problem seems worse when the weather is cold. Once it warms up with a little driving, there's no problem at all. Fluid level is where it should be. It seems the new filters are a different design from the original, with no clip or anything to hold it in place. I'm wondering if my filter fell down into the pan. Would that cause any problems with fluid pressure etc.? I can't think of anything else that might be wrong. Anyone else ever had a problem like this?

Also, I should mention that the car has been making noise too. The noise is hard to describe. The fluid is still a healthy red color, and the old fluid that came out looked fine too.
It was really bad again tonight. Like it's not shifting completely into gear, or slipping.

when you put the new filter in did you push it on until you "felt it click..snap ...pop...into place? There is an O ring on the shaft that must be seated...also , you might try adjusting the TV cable...
