Looking at a T-56 on ebay....

Says it's a Tremic with a bell housing adaptor. Will this fit right in place of my T-5?? Also says it has a mechanical speedo hookup.

Just wondering if it's worth the money.

that is not at all a bolt in trans. the mount for the crossmember is like 5 inches back, and i think the shifter is a few inches back as well....compare specs on the bottem of this site to the ebay auction http://members.rogers.com/1970-z28/muncie.htm other wise the spines might work for your drivetrain but i honestly don't know on that one.

Thats not to bad price wise for a brand new T-56 so if your willing to do the swap i would say go for it......
and if you want to sell your T-5 i might be interested.

Yeah, I didn't think it would be that easy

As far as my trans goes, before I got it, it leaked all the fluid out and was driven dry until it made a screeching noise and then it was parked...for 5 years!!

I opened up the case and found a flat needle-thrust type bearing had disentigrated and wasn't there. So I replaced it and it's been OK since. But with 3.73:1 rear gear, I turn 3200 RPM's at 70 MPH!!

Thanks for the info.

I'm lookin real hard at this: http://www.g-forcetransmissions.com/tran_gt-5.asp

I just have to see if they could rebuild mine! I like the thought of the 5th gear ratio at .65 on thiers vs 1:1 on the stock gears.

Get in touch with Liberty first. You should be able to get that trans for cheaper than it is in that auction.

The trans will go right behind your T5 bellhousing; that's what it was made to do; the adapter plate bolts to your bell, then the trans bolts to the plate. The shifter position shouldn't be too bad; 2" behind a stock T5 or so.

2000 RPM's at 70??? Even my S-10 with OD runs at 1800 at 70.

Nah, I'm in 5th gear all right. There must be quite a difference between a 3.73 rear and a 3.42.....

At 2000 RPM's in 5th gear, I'm only doing 50 MPH.
