Installing a T5 in a TPI car...
Hey all,
I swapped an '87 LB9 into my '85 Monte SS about 3 years ago, and kept the stock automatic in the car. The harness is from an automatic car, so it worked perfectly with my 200-4R. However, I'm getting bored with the car and my wife won't drive it, so I'm gonna be swapping a WC T5 into my car in a few weeks (more fun!). I'm already planning on changing to an '87 stick chip (it's on the way, along with the rest of the T5 conversion parts)and I had a couple quick questions for those of you that have converted an auto TPI car to stick.
* Did you change anything with the stock Park/Neutral switch?
* How did you wire in the reverse lights?
* Do I need to move anything else in the harness? In looking at my wire diagrams, I think everything else will function properly, but I wanted to be sure.
TIA!

The neutral switch and the backup lights both get their information from the factory shifter in an automatic car. 4 of the 6 wires in the auto shifter harness are for these 2 functions, although their specific colors escape me. You can run the wires from the neutral safety switch to this harness and file down the small male-type quick disconnect plugs to plug directly into the factory harness, or you can cut and splice. Likewise, with the reverse lights, I ran the wires from the switch on the trans, through the old automatic shifter cable grommet up to the same harness and plugged it in the same way. Use a test light and you can figure out which wires are which, or wait for somebody else to chime in. If I remember I'll check my service manual, but I usually tend to forget about everything like that as soon as I leave work.

Steve,
Should be able to pull the plug from the switch on the column and those two wires need to go to the two wires going to the trans. I never did this
The P/N switch gets disconnected from the column switch.
Don't forget to disconnect that useless linkage from column to trans., and go trew duels
Dats it.

I think it's a pretty standard 2 pin weatherpak connector; shouldn't be tough to locate. There's probably one a few blocks away on a black `03
