I need recommendations, please.

Hey guys, I beg for your infinite combined wisdom on the following subject.

Im getting a 350 block on friday to build.. this question is premature, but what transmission would you reccomend that I install once the motor is ready to go?

I've heard that my 5 speed V-6 tranny might hold up, but im not feeling suicidal.

I want to get a used transmission if possible. Im doing this on a slim budget (~600 per month for parts) If I were to go salvaging some old Z-28s, what transmission code should I look out for? The 700r4 is an auto right? Its gotta be a stick, man.

Also, what stock rear end do I have on my 92 RS V-6 marro? And what would you reccomend for its replacement?

Thanks for reading, sorry for the newbishness of my questions, but i've always wanted to build a motor for this car, and im just trying to soak in as much info as I can

If you want to keep the stick and be reasonably cheap, you can buy a used T5 from a V8 car...but don't expect it to hold up to heavy shock loading (ie clutch drops). Look for a World class T5 from 87 and newer F bodies (?), at least I think it's 87.

If you have more cash, get a T56 six speed from a 4th gen F body and buy a kit to replace your crossmember and various other bits.

700R4 is a 4 speed auto w/ overdrive.

Your axle ratio can be determined by looking up the RPO code on the underside of your console lid (at least that's where mine is) Look for a code starting with G (like GT4, meaning 3.73). My guess is a 3.23 or 3.08 in your car, but it's a guesstimate. I like 12 bolts or 9 inches to replace these pieces of crap but they are over 2 grand ready to bolt in.

Good luck
