Rear End Explosion
I totally forgot about this happening, and have gotten the rearend replaced, but I was wondering if anyone knew what the hell could of caused the incident described below.
I was driving around with my friends and we were gonna go get something to eat. Well I took a wrong turn and we ended up in some apartment complex, it winded all around, with a maze of hills and speed bumps, finally I see the exit for the damn place. Stop the car, put it into reverse go about 75ft in reverse, stop, put it into drive and hit the gas. Then bam.. the RPM goes from 1000 to 4000 in a split second then I hear a clatter and a twisting metal sound.... My rear ended ripped itself to pieces.
I got it towed away and then replaced. The machanic who put the new one in said he had never seen a rear end so twisted up and destroyed like mine, and he wanted to know what I did.. which was nothing.
Does anyone have any idea what could of caused this? Did I drive to far in reverse, could I have hit a speed bump at an odd angle, were the excessive hills to much for the car?

Maybe it was weakened from previous abuse. Did you let the trans actually shift into drive before you hit the gas? If not, you may have shocked the drivetrain when it shifted with power running through it.
Mine exploded also, but I blame it on a few years of hard clutch drops

Before I got the digital camera.
I mean, if shards of metal had flown through the casing, then it would be worth showing. But it looked like nothing was wrong.
But just how described it, the gears were a disaster and shredded up into millions of pieces.
And yes, I stopped completely before making my shifts.
