th-400 rear seal
th-400 rear seal
ok, i need a rear seal for my th-400 but i dont know what vehicle it came out of. when i went into checker, i told the lady at the counter i needed a rear seal for a tubo 400 and she got me a 400 engine rear main seal. obviously, i couldnt get any help there. i do know that it is a short tail shaft and tho yoke outiside diameter is 1.625" and its about 5" long, hopefully this will let you know what tranny i have. i just need to know what vehicle i could tell them i have so that i get the same size rear seal. thanks for the help.

They're all the same.
If you just need an application for them to punch into their computer because they're the all-too-typical parts store peeople that know nothing whatsoever about cars, go get the one for one of my other cars: 74 Chev Caprice 454 convertible.

They're all the same. Believe it.
There is such a thing as a Turbo 375, hoewever, that looks alot like a Turbo 400, but has the smaller output shaft, like a 350. Make sure that isn't what you've got. You could get both and just take back the one you don't use.

how do i know if its a 375 and not a 400? the yoke dimesions are the same as the driveshaft guy read off to me. although he gave me 2 different sizes. i know that the pan is the same shape as a th-400 pan, and the tail shaft is 4". i hooked up the megashifter for th-400 settings and its working fine, when i bought the yoke from the junkyard, i asked for a th-400 yoke. so everything leads me to believe that i do have a th-400, although the mechanic i bought the tranny from lied alot. when i was at checker trying to buy a rear seal, some guy busted out a book for tranny applications, and it had about three different applications for th-400, which varied by year. thanks for the help though, i have one coming at noon today for your caprice. ill let you know if it works.
