It will bolt to the engine, but that's about it.

The driveshaft will not fit. The mounts will not fit. It doesn't use a TV cable, so that will not fit. It uses an electric kickdown system, which your car does not have. It does not have provision for the torque arm, so that will not fit (although you can get a kit to relocate the TA mount).

Other than that, it's a direct bolt-in.

RB: I know of the elec. kickdown; does the TH400 also have a kickdown cable similar to the th350-C in a 1983 Monte / Caprice?

87z28: I think that the mods necessary to install it, and lost mileage without the overdrive gear offset the initial appeal of the th400. I'd say not that you bought a tranny, but rather that you were sold one.

IMO...

You'll need a T400 adapter kit from Jegs, a shorter drive shaft and a different input yoke. Maybe some other stuff for the cables, cooler lines and vac modulator.

driveshaft length would depend on which tail length version of the TH400 he has. A short one would require a longer than stock (83-02) shaft.
