Im changing my tranny filter and putting a new gasket on the pan, on my 700R4. Now my problem is, I was told that when I pull the old filter out, to make sure an O-ring comes out too. I took the filter out and no ring.
On my new filter, on the neck of it, there is a rubber looking ring, I assume that is the "o-ring". When I look into the hole where the neck of the filter goes, I see to what looks like that rubber ring thats on my new filter.
I attempted to install the new filter and I can not get the pan to go flat against the tranny. There's about a 1/2" gap. It seems like the pan is hitting something, which I now conclude is the filter.
What I am thinking is, should I remove that ring thats in my tranny where the filter goes? Cuz the ring itself is about 1/2" long and maybe I could push the filter up a 1/2" more and then the pan will fit?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I didn't leave it in on purpose, when i pulled the filter, the ring didn't come with it, the ring stayed in. Now Im picking at the damn rubber ring to get it out cuz it wont. grr
Keep in mind that they are not simply a rubber ring that you can cut and then pull out... It is a metal ring surrounded by rubber (which seals)... I use an offset screwdriver (the ones that have a 90 degree flat blade on one side) to get stuck trans filter seals out...
So... I should try and take the metal ring out with the rubber attached to it, instead of just getting the rubber part out?
The rubber seal has a metal core... Yes, it will come out as one piece, but the first time I ever did it, I thought it was just rubber (and cutting it wasn't working too well). A small offset screwdriver (I got a set from Advance Auto Parts, since that was where I was working then) will pop it out real easily...
