Does 2nd gen REAREND fit on a 3rd gen?

Hey guys,

I need a new rearend for my 91 bird. A buddy will supply
me with a 2nd gen posi rear with 355 gears from a '79 TA.
Both sets are drum brakes.
Will these rearends be inter-changeable? Is it possible to bolt up?

Thanks in advance.

No, they are not interchagable. I believe those rears still used leaf spings. Also you would not have the torque arm mounts or the control arm mounts. Now you could probably get it to work with some custom brakets and some fancy welding work. Probably would be too much work when you can most likely get one out of the junk yard for $100-150 in decent shape.
