700-R4 and Edelbrock Carb
I have the old 305 from my '87 IROC TPI that I'm putting into my S10 with the stock 700R4 still bolted to it. I'm going to run a 600 CFM Edelbrock ontop the manifold. *TPI stayed on the IROC*
I havn't really found any good info, but do I just run the TV cable in a bracket like this: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...art=SPE%2D2428 and run it like a kickdown?
Do I need a different length TV Cable?
I was going to stay with a manual trans on the truck, but the headers let out right at the slave cylinder and there is no way to route a pipe around it.
This lock-up kit should work right? However, why would anyone want the converter UNlocked during acceleration?! http://store.summitracing.com/partde...t=TCI%2D376600
ANYINFO WOULD BE GREAT!!!!!!!!!!

Yep it looks like that bracket will work fine, i used a different one though that tci makes. I had to slightly modify it for the throttle cable becasue i had a problem with the throttle not opening all the way. That lockup kit should be fine also and you dont want the converter locked during acceleration, especially not with everyday driving. You would destroy your tranny. Hope this helps.

ok, I am sort of doing a similar thing.....I am replacing 305 TPI with carbed 350. Do I understand correctly that all I need to make the 700r4 run properly after the swap is this kickdown bracket from summit?

You need the kickdown/throttle bracket.... and you need something to make the torque converter lock while you are cruising. I've read if the TCC is not locked you can over heat the transmission, and your MPG will go down because it's slipping.
That's where the TCI Lockup kit comes in. It's the cheapest one I could find that I knew would work.
Installed it last night, should work fine. Very easy to install, but the instruction's pictures kind of suck.
Don't know if it works yet, gotta get the driveshaft shortened an inch before I can go anywhere.

man...
man am I glad I stumbled on this thread......alright, so I understand that all I need for the full motor change is the bracket and the lockup kit, right? Man, I dont know anymore....I think it would be easier just to make the TPI run. see, I want to swap it because it won't run right, sometimes doesnt start, and is very expensive to maintain. But ***, I might just buy a TH350 or something and save the trouble, you know? I dont have to shorten the drive shaft, since I am staying IROC.
Thanks,ben

I've red that the TH350 needs a driveshaft modification *shorten or lengthen* and wont have overdrive. I LOVE overdrive. Gas milage = good.
I'll let you know what happens as soon as I get the driveshaft on the s10 here shortened, so I can drive it.
But yes you need those two things that I linked to at summit. I also bout, for 4.50 from summit, a stud that goes on the edelbrock carb that fits the TV cable like the TPI throttle body does.
On that bracket, they have the kickdown bracket too far back, what I did was unscrew it and turned it around so the L shape was toward the front, instead of toward the back. I measured the distance between the TPI's TV cable bracket and TB on my car, and got it to be about 1/8-1/4" off, but the adjustabilty of the TV should make it fine.
Your swaps biggest problem I would think would be getting the fuel pressure down, after that it's intake, carb, dizzy, coil, and you're done!
