tremec 3550 & Noise Question?

Ok finally got the car off the stands and on the road. I did a t-5 to 3550 swap and was wondering if the tremec is signifigantly noisier then the T-5 or if once again I messed up the install of the tranny? It seems really "grindy" (not like putting into gear but metal mesh grind) in 5 gear. The others have a little whine to them also.

Noisy 3550?

The TR-3550/TKOs are typically a little noisier than most trans because of the large gears. However, my TKO is very quiet, and I've had very few customers complain of any noise.

Is this a brand new trans? or a used one?

brand new... bought it from Fortes about 6 months ago. I wouldn't say that is is overly noisy. If I have the window down or the stereo on a little I can hear it. The loudest gear is 5th and that is really the only time I notice it. Also something I noticed today is when it is sitting in neutral at idle with e clutch engaged it sounds like the gears are churning away. Put it in gear and it goes away.

Noisy 3550

Well, 5th is usually the loudest, and it's not uncommon. If it's not loud, you're probably fine. Keep an ear on it. If it keeps getting louder, then you more likely have a problem.
If it doesn't change, then it's most likely the nature of the beast (large sized gear sets contribute to the noise).

take care,

I have the TKO (also from Fortes) in my 92 and, like he said, 5th is a little noisier (than the T5 was anyway).
