Get a Torco converter. They are cheap, and they work awesome. You won't find more friendly people to do business with. I beat on mine daily both on the highway and on hard supercharged launches and it works flawlessly.

http://www.torcoconverters.com

Talk with Mickey over at Torco. He'll ask you a bunch of questions about the car and your setup, then he can recommend the right converter. I'd say get the 9.5" lock-up unit with a 2800 RPM stall.

I would recommend a Midwest Convertor (www.raceconverters.com). I just got a 2800 stall for my car for $345 shipped. It works great. Just call them and tell them about your setup and they design it specially for your needs. Do you know your RWTQ and at what RPM it peaks at. Ideally you what a stall that is 400-600 less than your peak TRQ RPM. I would get a low STR around 2.0 - 2.2 if you take it to track much.

The Torco units are good for 500+ HP. Before I bought one, I e-ailed 4 guys that had bought Torco converters for 700R4 trannies. Of the 4, 3 replied back. All 3 had nothing but good things to say. Thats why I decided to try them. Now after the service I received and the quality of the converter, I will always use them for my converter supplier. I launch damn hard, pulling 1.6x 60 ft times consistently. Never had a problem with the converter. As far as which converter to use, a lock-up is pretty sweet. Nice high stall for killer launches, but zero slippage when you're cruising along. If you don't have a computer, you can wire the trans to always lock the converter in 4th gear. Or you can get the TCC lock-up kit that includes a vacuum switch that will lock the converter only under light loads / high vacuum conditions.

The lock-up stuff only applies to the 700R4 and 200 trannies. The turbo 350 doesn't use it. Or at least 99.9% of the 350s don't. They did make a 350 w/ lock-up for a couple years, but odds are you don't have that style. Any RPM below the "stall speed" of the converter means there will be slippage and power loss between the motor and trans. A lock-up has a clutch inside the converter that engages and creates a direct mechanicl connection between the motor and trans, just like with a stick car. The lock-up allows you to get better gas mileage when cruising since there is no power loss at the coupling.

The Torco converter is a 9-11, It is a 9.5 with an 11inch back L/U..looks like a UFO. Ive heard good and bad about these converters...They were selling them on ebay. I almost bought one.
They had a "normal 9.5 pictured, but sent out the 9-11. Kinda shady if you ask me.

That's going to be a waste. You will barely be able to tell a difference from the stock converter.

Stock is 1600. I don't think 400 RPM is worth changing it.

Are you replacing your transmission or is the converter the only thing you are doing? I just don't think it is worth the money or time that it will take to replace the convertor just for 400-600 extra RPM.

$200 payments; I hope you don't have to make too many of those for that transmission.
