doing a 700r4 swap this weekend...

Well, i'm finally pullin out the OG 700r4 this weekend. I have the new tranny and TC waiting to be slapped in.

This is my first tranny swap, and i am hoping everything goes smooth. About how long do this usually take? Also, what is the best way to do this?

I am gunna have the car on ramps (in front), and jackstands (in back). Do i need to pull the Torque Arm completely off? What else needs to come off? I need to know the best way to get this done with the littlest problems.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanx again guys.

You do not need to remove the torque arm, just be careful when you remove it because it will be loaded by the rear suspension and will shoot up... not terribly bad so long as you're on jackstands with an unloaded suspension but it will still be forced upward... it's recommended that you put a block of wood between the torque arm and floor pan so as not to dent it... but I didn't. :: shrug ::

Just take the advice I took from TomP and others and make SURE that the torque converter is seated ALL THE WAY IN before you bolt everything up! Engage both sets of splines! What I did was push it in until it couldn't go any farther, then I wiggled it back and forth and pushed it in more until it couldn't go any farther... and did this a couple times... finally it just would never go in any more and I felt pretty confident it was all the way in.

Make sure you have several friends willing to help with you. I had three or four other people there so it made it really easy. Probably more than necessary but it was a nice luxury to have.

Let me know if you have any questions, this swap is still fresh in my mind....

hey thanx.

yah i will have at least 2 friends helping tonight. so the torque arm doesn't need to come off? or does taking it off make it easier?

also, anyone that can help, would my Torque convertor/tranny being bad cause the car to run wierd? Last night i took it out to test it after i pulled the smog pump, plugged the AIR garbage, put on my TB, and put my underdrive pulley on. I used the stock belt....it seemed to fit better than any other belt. Anyways, I only have 1st gear (and sometimes 2nd), so i didn't go very far. The car was definately pulling very hard in 1st. But the car was idling pretty wierd. Like it seemed ok, then it would bog down and run kinda rough, then run fine again....???? Kinda like an injector was bad...?

Do you guys think it is related to my tranny/TC being bad? Or do you think i have some other problem?
