replaced shift selector seal
Well I replaced my shift selector seal this weekend on my 83 Z28 700R4. Since i had the pan off I decided to change the filter as well. That filter o-ring is a real bear to get out. It looks like it was Napa filter o-ring because it was exactly like the Napa one I was installing. It is orange and about a 1/4" wide with little ribs.
The shift selector seal was not too bad to get out. It looked like the selector shaft was the reason for the leak. It had some rust on it. I smoothed it up pretty good before reinstalling.
A question for you tranny gurus. Should that seal go over the shift selector shaft after the shaft is installed, or do you install the seal and then slide the shaft through it?
I sure hope the pan and new seal won't leak. It has been 48 hours with no drip yet.

Oh and another thing. There was not a magnet in the pan. Did that practice start after '83 on 3rd gens?
