8.5 rear end?

does any one now where to get a 8.5 10 bolt rear. I need something a litle stronger then my 7.5 to handle the hp i'm putting out. I've heard they are direct bolts ins...but what car do i take one out of or can I buy one new?

It is not a bolt-in at all, much less a direct bolt-in. There are no 8½" 10-bolts set up to go in one of these cars.

do you know where I could get a dana 44, I no SLP made them in the past but as far as I know they stopped making them.

I'em trying to get out of paying $2000-$2200 for a moser 9"or12 bolt. If i have no choice then I will. If I could pay $1000 for a dana 44 or have a 8.5 10 bolt made I would be much better off.

Thanks for the help

There are very very few of those Dana 44s in existence; I would be very surprised if there were even as many as 200 ever made. Last one I saw trade hands went for $1200, from a seller who didn't really know what he had. Odds are, by the time you actually locate one and complete the deal and ship it and all that, you'l have as much money in it as you would a 12-bolt or a 9".

8½" 10-bolts come in full-size cars, and full-size trucks. I would not bother with one. I have one, I've already torn it up once, it's nothing special. For all that money and effort of modifying something, don't start out with some half-assed thing and then try to turn chicken s*** into chicken salad.

I don't know how much power you have or what kind of 60' times you run, but if LS1 cars can run 11s and 1.8 short times with a stock 7½" 10-bolt the same as the one in your car, you might want to re-think the idea of replacing it, and instead, strengthen it a bit.

lmao..that was good..

i do agree that the 7 1/2 is kinda underrated

ive seen a H/C LS1 run low 11's do a 6,500 side step on the stcok t-56 and rear...they are fairly strong

also, if you go over to www.ls1tech.com and do a search in the drivetrain section on ford 8.8" rearends there are a few shops who are modifying them to fit into f-bodies out the door for around $1600.

that is about as cheap as you are going to get. The only reason i didn't do this is because i picked up a dana 44 for $1000

With those numbers you'd probably be fine on a 9 bolt rear. I've been running 500hp/520lbft thru my 9 bolt for almost 5 years now with out a single problem.
