350 auto. trans probs!!

my hubby swapped motor and trans in my 87 TA...the problem is now the transmission will try to pull even though its supposed to be in park. He has checked all wiring and vacuum lines. Please tell me what else he can check and do to make it work! Scratching our heads here!

Sounds like the shifter is badly misadjusted, or improperly isntalled, or just plain broke; such that it's not in Park when the PRNODD21 says it is, but rather is in some other gear.

The problem isn't in wring or vacuum lines, it's the shifter.

another problem i want to ask about,, my guages were all digital in the car originally, but with the 350 trans i put in, its set up for cable guages. I know there are converters, but the only one I have seen is in Jegs, and it cost like $300.....Can you find these somewhere cheaper? I would really like to keep the digital, but at that price, would rather redo the dash and set it up for cable guages!

I'm by no means an expert on this, but if you do a search you'll find more information on it.

Shouldn't you just need a vehicle speed sensor, and maybe a dakota digital box for speedo calibration? If you already had the digital guages, you won't need the box that interprets the pulse per mile rate, it should already be in the car! Little yellow box near the HVAC controls I believe. I could be wrong, but do a search and you'll find more than you EVER wanted to know about this stuff!!! :lala:

thanks for all the advice. I hope your right about the gauges!! Hubby said he would check it, but he has a feeling something has to go from the little yellow box to the transmission to make the digital work, since the transmission was used with cable gauges. We will see when he tears into it again the weekend!! Thanks and ill let you know how it goes!!
