Switch T-10 4 speed to Auto?

I made a separate post about my damaged clutch. Since I’ll have to remove my transmission to repair it, and I possibly want to switch the car to an automatic someday, I’m wondering if now would be a good time?

Details on car:
LG4 305
4bbl Quadrajet
NO ECM from factory! This is a Canadian car
Borg Warner Super T-10 4 speed

The car is only a weekend cruiser in summer. Emissions/mileage are of no real concern. Driveability is though. Car will never be raced, but I would like it to be a quick street car someday, perhaps a mild 350 in the future.

What auto would you recommend? 700R4, TH350, TH400? Which ones have OD? What do I need to switch these trannies, bearing in mind I have a carb and NO computer? How much $$ am I looking at?

TH400 is pretty much for some serious evil power of big block proportions, not very likely you'll want or need all of this capacity.
Rear yoke is different, you'd need to find one. Don't know about torque arm mounting or modulation (vacuum or TV cable)

700R4 is an OD tranny, nice to have if you're running a deep gear out back. You'll need a shorter driveshaft or get yours cut down a bit. You'll need to run a TV cable to your throttle linkage.

TH350 is probably the easiest route, most bang for your buck. Make sure it's a short tail, these are most common anyway. Driveshaft will stay the same (I think, the BW T10 yoke may be different). Torque arm brackets are available from Summit or Jeg's, just run a vacuum line for the modulator.

With any tranny, you'll need the flex plate, torque converter, a tranny cooler and some lines to plumb it with. Most 700R4s and a scant few TH350s have lock up converters, you can wire them up to a switch since you have no ECM, or just ignore them, they will operate like a standard converter.

If you're getting rid of your T-10, PM me, I might be interested in it.

I'll trade my 86 IROC (305TPI, auto, t-tops) for your complete
T-10 set up. You get the good running, true IROC car w/auto (for your complete conversion)

Post is back from the dead!

It turned out to just be my inspection cover on the clutch. I repaired that and my T-10 was fine. So no switching at the moment as I didn't have to drop the tranny.

See: https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=184557

Thanks for the offers though! My T-10 is obviously something special! (It is alot of fun to drive I must admit)

OK, I'm going to switch this transmission for sure now. Nothing wrong with the T-10, but it's true I'm building a "Knight Rider" replica and that's an automatic so....

I've basically got everything for a TH-350 swap, but I'm not sure what range for a torque converter I should get.

As stated before:
LG4 305
4bbl Quadrajet, B hanger, CK rods
NO ECM from factory! This is a Canadian car
No cat
3.23 Rear end
Will be TH-350 with Transgo Shift Kit

I will probably eventually get a mild 350 engine for Saturday night cruising, I'm wondering if there is a certain stall range that will work nicely now, and down the road with a new engine? This will never be a race car, but I'd like it to be a fast street car.

Any advice appreciated
