I think I killed it

Well I think I finally did it in. The old 700R4 was slipping a little going from 1st to 2nd. Adjusted the TV cable and it seemed to help. Fluid wasn't looking so good so last night I changed it. Level looked good so I drove home. After about 5 minutes it would only go into 1st and not shift into 2nd. Crawled home with it and checked the fluid. Made sure it was topped off and went around the block and it did the same thing.

Anything else I should check before I take it in. It only has 70K on it. I assume that's plenty of miles to have it go out but my other one lasted much longer.

Thanks

check the linkage from the shifter, maybe its only engaging first gear? does reverse, park, and neutral work?

Sounds like the governor might be bad to me.

The thing I'm thinking of is that it worked before I changed the fluid. It worked for 5 minutes after I changed the fluid. Then it died. Seems to me like it was a result of the fluid change and the fact that it was slipping before.

if the fuid and other thing such as tv cable don't help, as metioned, i'd suspect the governor gear first. they break very easily because the plastic becomes very brittle over time + heat. it's easy and chep to fix if that is the problem.
