Neutral Safety Switch and back up light switch??
I was wondering if this Nuetral safety switch thing has to be adjusted on my car or not. How do I tell when it's time to adjust it? What is a nuetral safety switch anyways? Is it important? I think mine does need adjusting because everytime I shift into any gear, I dont hear the click like I used to when it was shifted into gear. Now, when I shift it, it doesnt LOCK into place any gear I shift in. I could accidentlly hit the shifter and ruin my trans. Please help. Thanks.

'borrowed from click clack.
If your shifter is not locking into gear, i believe you would need a new shifter.
the NSS only keeps you from starting in drive or reverse.

Your shifter not locking or clicking into each gear might not be a problem with the shifter itself, but the detent ball and spring inside the transmission. That's what it sounds like to me. When the detent spring breaks or the ball falls out of place, you have no definite stops in each gear. The shifter will slide perfectly smooth all the way from Park down to 1st. You'll have to drop the trans pan to fix that if it's the problem. It's located right inside the casing where your shift linkage is. As far as I know, there's no adjustment for the safety neutral switch, but I could be wrong. If you want to check, it's located at the base of the shifter. Just remove your shift plate and you'll see it easily enough.
