gear installation

I had my zexel torsen posi, and a 3.42 ring and pinion installed from a shop. The ring and pinion are out of (if i remeber correctly) 98 SS and had only like 20 miles on them. The mechanic drove the car around after he installed the components and said they whined and that was because the ring and pinion are straight cut. I did not really worry about it, but after reading some of these posts, i am kinda worried now. The whining only occurs after i stop accelerating and i am coasting. Note: these are not Richmond gears, these are gears out of a Camaro SS. The reason i say this is because i have rad other posts and they almost all refer to whiney richmond gears.
ANy suggestions? Should i just give them time to break in, or should i take it back to the shop ASAP?
Thanks

Either the gears were bad from the factory, or that guy didnt install them correctly. With only 20 miles on them, they shouldnt have a wear pattern that would cause them to whine.

I kinda figured it was something bad. Im definitely gonna take it back cuz i'm not one to bend over.
The thing is he's gonna say that the noise is normal because of the straight-cut ring. NEways, what do i tell him to look for and something he may have done wrong? I am not versed in rear-ends at all, so i want to know what the whining could be from because i need something to justify my claim.
I hate dealing with most mechanics. According to them, nothing they do is wrong and they never overlook anything (of course i'm not talking about anyone on this board).
Thanks for your feed back.

Say that. Also, tell him if he insists it is b.c of the straight cut design, then he better be prepared to pay for new rearend components & give you free labor if something goes wrong in the future!

If its because of the straight cut gears, then remind him those came from a stock production Camaro, and every single rear end would whine from the factory. Obviously that's not the case, right? Its a tricky process installing gears. The ring and pinion have to mesh together just right or they'll whine. You should have brought it to my dad in Orange County.

I wanted to bring it to your dad (your dad is Don right?) but i needed to get it done before i started before summer school, and he said he needed to get through some other projects first.
I got my headers done from your father and everything came out right the first time, not like this bull****. I guess i should have been more patient and waited.
