I need help really bad please...

I just went into my car to go park it back in my driveway and the car rolls while in park now The shifter goes all the way to park in the car but the car moves like its in neutral. Anyone have any clue what's wrong? I need to be able to park the car before street cleaning and my e-brake is broken. Anyone please help. Thanks.

Ok I went out and tried to play with the lever a little. It seems real loose when I shift out of park and doesn't click or anything. All the other gears you can feel them being engaged but park doesn't seem to be engaging anything. Is there an individual cable for park that could be broken or gone? Park won't engage if I slam it into park and the shifter will click into park but it feels loose. The shifter comes out of park really easy with the ignition on and the brake pedal down. Any ideas on this? I need some help on this one as soon as possible. Thanks.

There's a rod hooked to the shift linkage that runs toward the back of the case (Yellow, but it's removed in the pic). On the end is a mushroom shaped cam that when engaging park, pushes this lever (The parking pawl) into the case and engages teeth inside the case locking it.

I would start by inspecting this, the pawl (red) is held in by a roll pin. Something had to come loose or get chewed up.

Before I start ripping into the transmission what about the cable linkages? Is there a seperate cable for park? What would I look at on the cables before I bring the car down for tranny inspection.

Look underneath the car where the cable attaches to the tranny. Its common for the two bolts that hold the bracket to the tranny to come loose. Make sure those two bolts (it shares two pan bolts) are tight.

Got the car on the lift today. The sleeve that the cable goes through broke causing some binding. So that was the problem. I manually shifted it into park and park worked fine. So right now when I put it in park it is really going into reverse. Well time for a new sleeve and cable. Thanks for the help guys. I am glad it wasn't the pin in the tranny
