Pro Built please advise! Fried Sprag??
Pro Built please advise! Fried Sprag??
Well today when I left work I got on it a little bit, I usually shift my 700R4 manually, I went into second and let off the throttle low and behold no engine brake! It would brake in 1st though. I limped it home and let it cool down, took it out again and now engine brake in all 4 gears disappeared. In first when I tested the engine brake it made that nice whining noise we all hate to hear. I am putting my money on the sprag, can someone back up my theory? It shifts great in every gear, no slipping it just has no engine brake and you need to bring the rpms up to get it moving after you let off the throttle. I ripped it out tonight and put a spare one in so I am on the road. When I replace it should I opt for the 29 element sprag? Worth it? Any other areas to beef up? It is a 91 so it has the 30 spline input shaft.
If you are going to do this yourself, there are a lot of things to look for (examine) while it is apart. Get yourself an ATSG book, and have someone who is familiar with transmissions to help you out on this. I can supply you with everything that is needed to build this unit right the first time. Let me know?
I have rebuilt many transmissions, as a matter of fact the one that actually replaced the fried one was one I built awhile back. Rebuilding it is not a problem for me I just wanted to be sure that this was the problem. I want to get all of my parts together before I rip into it.
I am having TV cable confusion, hopefully you can give me some advice. With the replacement trans. in and the TV cable adjusted properly the trans. shifts weird. The rpms race up in between shifts, then it kind of slides into gear. Now with the cable disconnected it shifts nice and quick and hard. I have the trans go little kit installed. I am confused shouldn't it be the opposite of what is going on. The tighter the tv cable the higher the pressure right? With the cable disconnected shouldn't the pressure be lower?
If you left the large check ball in (the that Trans-Go tells you to leave out), you will activate the high line pressure setup when you disconnect the TV cable. If the TV cable is adjusted correctly, and you have a cutloose/spinup between shifts?, then there is something amiss here. If you manually shift it does it do any better? DO NOT let it spinup between gears as this will do the transmission in in a matter of miles. Does the TV cable have resistance when you pull on it? If you have a pressure guage (0 - 300 psi) you can check this out, to see what is happening.
