10 bolt differential spacer/shims
10 bolt differential spacer/shims
I'm still in the process of rebuilding my 10 bolt, it has new bearings, seals, axles, differential, and differential bearings. When I went to put it back together, one of my spacers broke. I'm referring to the spacers that go on either side of the differential. There are no shims, just the spacer. It is .238 inches thick. So far there are no parts stores that carry these things (no store chains or dealers). Any ideas on where to get them? Please don't tell me the junk yard, because I've checked there too.
Thanks,
Scott

http://www.drivetrainspecialists.com...=28&cat=GM+7.5 right near the top of the page; they're on the west coast, you can have it in your hand in the morning.
The thing you broke is in fact a factory shim, even though it doesn't exactly look like one.

Just talked to drivetrainspecialists, and they were awesome, the actual part # was IK842310, I thought I'd put it on here for future reference for those who do searches. Hopefully I'll have it by the end of the week and can get this thing running.
Thanks again,

I went back and looked; it's the 3rd thing on the page, "master shim kit". The other will work fine too.
The shim is a selective-fit part; you can't just get one off of another rear, because it's chosen to give the right space in there. It's selected to make up for inconsistency in the housing machining.
The kit you get will have some .100" thick washers and a whole bunch of much thinner ones. Use 2 of the thick ones and the fewest of the thin ones you can in between them to come out to .038" (like a .018" and a .020").
