How can I tell which ratio, size, limited slip etc that it has? It has 4 wheel disc. A chevy friend looked at the tag under the console lid and said it was a 7 5/8, 3.23 limited slip. Does that sound right?

most likely a 3.23 rear axle. do you know for sure that it's the original axle?
best way would be to pull the cover, and count the number of teeth on ring gear and pinion gear. btw, the gear lube prolly needs changed anyway.

Can you not just punch in the RPO Codes (which are located under the center consal arm rest) into the decoder on this site, and there it will tell you every part and gear ratio, engine ex.LG4, L69..., you have?

All GM axel codes will be stamped or tagged (depending where it was manufactured on the third member. i have axel decoder book somewhere but its is listed on the net also or you can read the code to the GM parts counter guy. Any of these options will tell you what ratio and ring size. Another thing Haynes have them listed in drivetrain sec. its not that hard to figure out.

https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/techdb.shtml Could be 3.23 or 3.73.
The code is stamped on the passenger side tube, 3 characters, typically has another number series stamped above or below or beside the axle code. Scrape off the grease & dirt and read it. Then, pull the cover, count the teeth (they are also marked), and refill with fresh gear lube (which it probably needs, anyway). While you've got the cover off, you can also see if it is open or posi (springs in the carrier means it's posi). Posi came with a tag under one of the cover bolts, may or may not still be there.

Jack up the rear end and rotate the tire exactly one turn while counting the number of times the axle rotates. @3.25 turns=3.36, @3.75 turns=3.73.
