How long (miles) do 700-R4's live?
Hey guys,
My Camaro is V6 (3.1L from 92') and has a four speed auto with it. It has 75k on it, 11 of which are from me, and i am wondering if this trans is going to be reliable for a long time. I had the fluid flushed and changed last year, it was good before I just wanted to make sure it was good, and I do not beat on the car. It shifts nice and firm and does not give me any problems now. Sometimes the engine will run up to 220 degrees, but if I keep the car from heating up that much (keep the car moving), and do not floor it, will it live like 200K? Any help is appreciated.

That's what most people call a stupid question. It depends on way too many factors for ANYBODY to give you an exact figure. Drive it nicely and change the fluid on a regular interval and it will like several hundred thousand miles. Drive it like an ******* and it will break tomorrow. Get my point ? lol

My mom's 88 Caprice trans lasted about 160k before it blew. I figure if you drive a vehicle and never change the transmission fluid...150k is about the avg life expectency. I have no knowledge of transmissions with the fluid changed on a regular basis...
Alot of it depends as the other guy said too....but those are just my 'guess' numbers.

hell i've changed my trans fluid religiously @ 10K intervals. the damn is showing signs of trouble. this behind a L98. sometimes i have a little fun you know. but most of the time i'm easy on the car. since i bought it it has lasted 40K with me. now sitting @120K. i dunno how much longer it's gonna hold up.

700R4 in my wife's S10 Blazer (4.3 V6) is at 237,000 miles and still working fine! Hasn't had a fluid or filter change since 85,000.
Expect it to die any day, but still shifts nicely for now.

I personally only got about 65,000 out of mine. I guess when people say its a hit or miss i guess i missed.. At any rate im throwing a T-56 in there which should hold up to about anything i throw at it...
