What other options besides T56 for something that can handle 500HP?

i'm trying to find out as much as i can....when i get enough money, i'm gonna put a crate engine into my 'maro....
Its gonna be between 450 and 500 HP. It will be a pretty much daily driver, but i dont drive much....maybe like around my town a little bit, up to the drag strip, to work which is in the town next to me, sometimes to my cousins house in NH (the state over, 1 hour away).
What are some tranny options?
Although i like manual transmission, i am willing to go automatic if its less expensive and will be better with that power...
I'm not looking to spend tons of money on the transmission, and yes, i know.....shouldnt go cheap on stuff like the tranny, but i just dont want to pay more than 1k for the tranny.

Please post links and info if possible, thanks

With 700 hp, you will need to spend more then 1 grand in the tranny alone. An automatic is much cheaper if you would like it to handle that much power. A built Turbo 400 would be the easiest route.

you could do a built PG for about a grand. The turbo 400 is strong but you'd still need to beef it up some to handle that much power. Your looking at 1500 or more for a built th400. The t56 can hold it but your looking a minimum of a 1k clutch to hold that much power plus the 1500 or so for the tranny itself. Long and short of it is divert some of the cash from your motor to the rest of your drivetrain and have a happy dependable driver.....or go the route your headed and walk more than you drive it.....

as far as cheap trannys that can hold the power, the T56 is about as cheap as they come..

some of the older 4 speeds were good enough to take the power of big blocks, but they are kinda hard to find, and would require alot of work to stuff under the Fbody...

not to mention, converting the TQ arm would take most of the cost savings, if any....

TKO is less than a T56

If you're talking about brand new transmissions, the TKO 5sp is less money, and easier to install, and stronger than a T56.

The f-late TKO is $1975 plus $90 shipping.
Here's the swap details: http://www.5speedtransmissions.com/3rd_gen_camaro.html

Bear in mind though, that these are street transmissions, and won't stand up to much abuse with 700hp. You'll want to treat any street manual transmission nicely with that much power.

i'm talking new or used

Also, i think probably by the time i have enough money to get past 500 HP i'll be using it as a strip only car, so forget about anything more than 500 right now

What are other options for a tranny thats new or used, under 1k bucks, and can stand up to 500 HP

Tranny for under $1k

An automatic can be had for under $1k, but I doubt you could install a manual for less than that. You' d have to get pretty lucky on the price of the manaul trans (hoping to get a good one), and don't forget the additional parts (bell, clutch, flywheel, etc).

A manual tranny is out of your price range.

right now i got no transmission.......
no car for that matter.......
but i sure as heck have a plan for the car when i get it :-D
right now i'm just saving all my money....
btw i found a few T56's on eBay for around 1k....i might just stick with that cause it seems to be the easiest/least expensive out of all the mannys and alot of autos....

Remember you will need to spend lots more $$ to get a T-56 to work. Even more $$ if you start out with an auto.

Also, you may not be getting a decent tranny. Its very possible problems can and will come up that will cost even more money.
